I hear this is the only actual field evidence of the passing of Lewis and Clark on the Lewis and Clark overland trail, His signature carved into the rock at Pompeys Pillar just East of Billings on the Yellowstone river. But there may also be more field evidence in the form of  Mercury  at a rest site near Troutdale

Some dude carved  "Surf Hawaii" to the right of the frame out of site ... Had to chuckle ...
