A  typical rommel stake. Where one like this was found there would also be two more either side that acted as supports and driven into the ground with 1 or 2 inches above the surface. Still razor sharp even after 50 years.

Remnants of WW II were scattered all over the island. from broken down defunct willys jeeps and trucks to large pieces of machinery to Unexploded Ordnance (UXO). There were 5 restricted areas on the island that contained untold amounts of UXO.

One of the contractors was an outfit from Texas that used RTK GPS attached to Metal detectors that looked for and mapped UXO and rommel stakes. Then destroyed the UXO with explosives. This photo courtesy of Melissa Nugent. Checkout her website.
